Cycling and biking in Carinthia

Der Kirchheimerhof

Biking, cruising, living, Carinthia

Kind of cool knowing that everything is set right outside the front door. From fast-paced natural single trails and smooth racing bike terrain to Europe’s longest Flow Country Trail – we’ve got you covered.

But first things first. Let's start with the routes that cyclists with the narrow tires like tackling. Believe it or not, the Nockberge mountains beckon with as many as 20 road bike rides waiting to be explored on two wheels. Or are you one of those who prefer studded tires? Scroll down to find out more....

Trails in Carinthia – let it rip.

There’s something to be said for that. Freedom on two wheels. High up and steep down. The views up there? Fabulous. A reward for the thigh-burning ascent. How about exploring the trails with the extra battery boost of an e-bike? Quite clever.

Discover the nock/bike region of Bad Kleinkirchheim, Feld am See and Millstätter See on 750 km of well-signposted bike paths. Along with idyllic lakes here and there to cool off following a hot ride.

Biking - how it's done

“Well, no need for that,” you might be thinking. “That’s something I learned at kindergarten age,” etc. Those who want to get to know it better, though, welcome expert advice and learn everything it takes for a great day out on the trails.

Our partner, Sportschule Krainer, offers  individual programs and bike packages to get you ready for a great time on the trails. Improve your biking, as the locals say.

Flow Country Trail

Drops & bumps? What sounds more like a new breakfast cereal variety is actually a cool sports highlight. Garnished with banked corners and action-filled adventures.

Anyone who is familiar with the Kirchheim locals, knows that we don't necessarily  always reach for the stars, strive for the highest, the furthest, the fastest. We like to take it easy once in a while. But with the Flow Country Trail we jumped over our own shadow: Tadaa!

With 15 kilometers in length, it is Europe's longest bike trail. The adventure starts at the Kaiserburg cable car’s mountain station at 2,055 meters above sea level covering a vertical drop of 1,000 meters and a gradient of 8%.

Around Lake Millstättersee or to Lake Brennsee

You don’t necessarily need to tackle altitude meters, peaks or thigh-burning ascents. That’s what we think. And many others who head off on a circular tour around Lake Millstätter See, rewarding themselves not only with kilometers of enjoyable cycling and stupendous lake views, but also fantastic sunsets. Complete with box seats in Millstatt, Dellach and Döbriach. Upon prior reservation, the nock/bike shuttle is available for a convenient ride back from Döbriach to Bad Kleinkirchheim.

How about a racy descent to Lake Brennsee? Uphill either comfortably with the Kaiserburgbahn cable car or your own muscle power. Riders can then look forward to a speedy descent along the mountain-lake trail all the way back to the shores of Lake Brennsee for a refreshing dip to finish off. The nock/bike shuttle takes you back to Bad Kleinkirchheim
