There are many reasons why the Carinthian cuisine is so popular. Some of them are called Ritschert, Reindling, Sennkäse or pine schnapps. Enjoy regional delicacies pretty much first-hand at the alpine huts and mountain inns directly on and slightly off the Nockalm Road. When toasting with a “pine” shot, salutations are to be taken quite literally as both stone pine wood and pine liqueur contain many precious ingredients that, enjoyed moderately, are exceedingly healthy. Home-bred chars at the southern end of the Nockalm Road need to be sampled as well: rarely does fish this fresh hit your plate. Tip: buy regional products such as the unique spike lavender products for home use at the farmer’s shop on the Eisentalhöhe.
